Shravan, also known as Sawan, is considered the holiest month in the Hindu calendar dedicated to Lord Shiva. This sacred month, usually falling between July and August, holds immense spiritual significance. It is believed that worshipping Shiva during Shravan brings peace, prosperity, health, and spiritual growth.
Why Shravan is Special
According to Hindu scriptures, during this month the Samudra Manthan (churning of the cosmic ocean) took place, and the poison ‘Halahal’ emerged, which Lord Shiva consumed to save the world. To reduce the effects of the poison, devotees offer water, milk, and sacred leaves to Him during Shravan.
How to Get Maximum Blessings from Lord Shiva in Shravan
- Perform Rudrabhishek – Offer water, milk, honey, curd, and ghee to the Shiva Lingam while chanting the ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ mantra.
- Offer Bel Patra (Bilva Leaves) – It is said that three-leafed Bel Patra pleases Lord Shiva and fulfills desires.
- Observe Fasts on Mondays (Shravan Somwar) – Fasting with devotion is believed to bring marital harmony, career success, and spiritual upliftment.
- Chant Shiva Mantras – Recite ‘Mahamrityunjaya Mantra’ and ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ daily to attract divine energy.
- Light a Ghee Lamp – Light a pure ghee diya in front of Shiva every evening to invite peace and blessings.
- Help the Needy – Charity and kindness in this month multiply the good karma and please Mahadev.
