Gudi Padwa
Gudi Padwa marks the starting of the New Year in Marathi calendar. Gudi Padwa is also known as Marathi New Year and it is celebrated on the 1st day of the Chaitra month. In most Hindu calendars, which are based on lunisolar calendars, it is very very significant day. The new year celebrations with the name of Gudi Padwa is mostly famous in Maharashtra, india. In Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in the same day is observed as Yugadi and Ugadi respectively.

Gudi Padwa is the first day of lunisolar base Hindu and Marathi calendar. Most Hindu and Marathi calendars are based on an ancient treatise popularly known as Surya Siddhanta. As per Hindu and Marathi beliefs, the treatise of Surya Siddhanta was revealed to mankind by the Lord Surya himself. Hence the origin of GudiPadwa might be impossible to date.
As per Vedic astrology the day of Gudi Padwa is very very significant. The day of GudiPadwa (marathi people festival) falls under Sadhe Teen Muhurat. In Vedic Astrology, Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya, Vijayadashami and half of Bali Pratipada create Sadhe Teen Muhurta and these days need no Muhurta. It is believed that all work conducted on these days give positive results with celebration.
